Gel Retardation

The expression of a gene depends on the fixation of regulation proteins (transcription factors, see Profile 1) on the promoter region. The genetic transformation technique associated with functional analysis of promoters can be used to delimit nucleotide regions of the promoter that may intervene in the regulation of gene expression (see Profile 30). The gel retardation technique makes it possible to detect proteins or proteic complexes that fix on these promoter regions.
