ABSTRACT

Many prokaryote and eukaryote genomes have been sequenced or are being sequenced (see Profile 3). The following table gives some examples of physical parameters of genomes.

Coding strand, sense strand: some definitions DNA is made up of two anti-parallel and complementary strands. During the transcription of RNA, only one of the two strands is read and copied by the RNA polymerase. The RNA strand obtained is thus complementary to the template DNA strand that served as original. By definition, this template DNA strand is called antisense; the other strand, which has the same sequence as the mRNA, is the sense strand.
