ABSTRACT

Progress in the theory of s tructural analysis is closely related to progress in the unders tand ing of ea r thquake g round mot ion and dynamic propert ies of s t ructures , such as the considerat ion of the spectral content of ea r thquake g round mot ion , the nonl inear behavior of s tructures, the uncertainty of g round mot ion evaluat ion and the multiple levels of s tructural behavior in design, as well as the development of computer technology. The corre sponding stages in ea r thquake response analysis are those of static, spec t r u m and dynamic theory (section 13.1).
