ABSTRACT

Shooting should start at corners or the ends of sections or other areas that are prone to rebound entrapment and the working face should always slope away therefrom. Thick sections should be built up in layers which slope toward the face at an angle of about 45 degrees, such that any rebound will tend to roll off. In order to minimize rebound entrapment behind horizontal reinforcing, a slope should be maintained in the longitudinal direction as well (Fig. 4). Buildup of the shotcrete in horizontal layers must be avoided, as rebound will tend to become entrapped behind the reinforcing bars as the mass approaches the bottom thereof. The top of the individual placement layers should always terminate between horizontal reinforcing bars in order to provide as clear a path as possible for the rebound to exit.
