ABSTRACT

Many techniques other than those already introduced in the preceding chapters have been proposed in the literature. In this chapter, three of the more frequently applied categories in nonlinear random vibration, namely, the truncated hierarchy, perturbation and functional series techniques are introduced. While these categories of techniques are relatively popular for sdof nonlinear systems under random excitations their use in nonlinear systems with many dof is algebraically and computationally not viable, and therefore in the following sections only essential steps and simple examples are given so as to illustrate the features of the techniques and substantiate the points made.
