ABSTRACT

Advances in sensing technology over recent

years provide a suitable framework for the collec-

tion and analysis of building performance data and

processes. A “OnWorld” report on the use of wire-

less sensors claims that “only 5 percent of the most

mission critical equipment is monitored today. The

rest is monitored manually or not at all (Sirico,

Parker & Thorn). Recent research shows that the

adoption of a wireless sensor platform can assist

with energy efficiency in building performance and

the produced flow of monitored data forms the

basis for a Computer-Aided Facility Management

system (Menzel et al. 2008).
