ABSTRACT
Most recently, however, some research has appeared that promises to shift the ‘advice’ away from the mechanics of preparing a table to the response the user will have. Guthrie et al. (1993) build on previous work done by them together and individually to report on how people cognitively read and understand several graphic forms (including tables). They argue that reading visuals and reading text are somewhat similar activities.
