ABSTRACT
Technical Committee 145 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has been working on improving the introduction of comprehensible public information symbols since the beginning of the 1970s. After reviewing worldwide research undertaken until this date, the working group concerned with testing procedures proposed a series of tests to be applied for evaluating symbols in order to base standardization of symbols on an objective and scientific approach (Easterby and Zwaga, 1974).
