ABSTRACT

Stems 30-80 cm tall, upright, simple or branched in upper part with short downy hair, covered in lower half with long stiff hairs bent downward. Leaves lanceolate, lyrate, pinnatisect, with more or less acuminate terminal lobe, sometimes entire, up to 15 (20) cm long, 2-5 (10) cm broad, generally hirsute. Flower heads 2-3.5 cm in diam. Phyllary lanceolate, oblong-ovate, pubescent outside and along margin. Calyx itself with 8 fine-subulate teeth, hairy. Corolla bluish-lilac, 9-15 mm long in outer flowers, 6-7 mm long in inner flowers. Achene ovate-oblong, 5-6 mm long, hairy.
