ABSTRACT

Host Resistance to Microbial Plant Pathogens Crop disease management has been attempted by adopting various methods either singly or in combination of two or more methods, resulting in varying degrees of effectiveness. These methods are directed toward the host and/or pathogen. Host management has primarily nongenetic and genetic components. The nongenetic component consists of cultural methods (Chapter 9) and physical and chemical techniques (Chapter 10). The effectiveness and feasibility of adopting them have already been discussed. The genetic component involving identification of sources of resistance employing reliable screening method(s) and utilization of selected sources of resistance in the breeding programs for development of cultivars with resistance to major diseases of different crops are discussed in this chapter.
