ABSTRACT

Companies engaged in manufacture must compete in the international marketplace while producing to world-classstandards. Firms using Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) must respond to demand with reference to delivery, price, quality and flexibilityin the face of decreasing product lifecyclesand smaller lot sizes. This paper reviews the usefulness of current efficiency measures to companies using AMT and refers to research currently taking place at the University of Hertfordshire to develop appropriate measures of efficiencyin such companies.
