ABSTRACT

Electrochemical Machining(ECM) employs the phenomenon of electrolysis to remove material from metal workpieces in a controlled manner. This is achieved by passing a heavy electrical current through a shaped tool electrode, which is traversed towards the workpiece while an electrolyte solution is pumped between the two. There are several major problems to be resolved when designing practical tools for ECM. One of them is to define the precise shape of the profile or surface of the tool, since it is not simply a matter of making a constant offset or clearance from the required workpiece.
