TRANSPORT OF LEACHATES FROM A LANDFILL COUPLED WITH A GEOCHEMICAL MODEL

ABSTRACT Transport of groundwater contaminants from a landfill closed in 1960 was modelled with the geochemical code MINEQL and the transport code FAST. The model was based on groundwater analyses of eight wells downstream the landfill and the hydrological situation of the area. The two codes were linked by elemental Kd’s calculated by MINEQL and used by FAST to model transport. Available data seldom satisfy modeller’s demands. Parameters necessary for the linked code were judged whether they are sufficiently known or can be derived from groundwater analysis or have to be estimated. Sensitivity of results was assessed in regard to hydrogeological parameters.
