ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The concept of sustainable development is explained, with particular reference to the Brundtland Report, pleading for the need to promote a sustainable development of water resources along the lines put forward by this report. A broad description of the world water resources situation is presented, and the main problems threatening the sustainable development of water resources are identified, with special reference to global climate change impacts. The paper concludes by clarifying the main actions required to ensure a sustainable development of water resources.
