A tower in the desert: an integrated design approach to facades and technical systems

The project shown in Figure 1 is the result of a competition for the Kingdom Trade Center in Riyadh. The low construction around the tower comprises mainly commercial space like retail, restaurants, etc. The tower itself contains offices, hotel and residential at a total size of 100,000 m2. The team consisted of Kohn Pedersen Fox, London for the architecture, Ove Arup, London for the structure and HL-Technik, Munich for the technical systems.
