ABSTRACT

One oi'the implications of building ever higher is that tall buildings must exist and function in a harsher environment than their lower brethren. Nothing lasts for ever, and many building materials and components used in the past have lasted a disappointing length of time. Maintenance is therefore a vital part of any considered approach to tall buildings. Already, tall buildings erected as recently as the 1960s are in need of maintenance and we can learn from experience with them when designing new tall structures.
