ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION A multipurpose indoor arena is a public assembly building designed to accommodate large crowds of people viewing a wide variety of events in a controlled indoor environment. Americans use the term ‘arena’ to denote this project type. We have designed forty four arenas and have learned a great deal about this building type and their interaction with cities. Events can be most anything including circus, concerts, ice shows, exhibitions, sporting events, rallies, political gatherings, traveling productions, athletics, and equestrian events. We have designed buildings from 6,000 to 25,000 seats with event schedules varying from about 100 to over 500 events per year with annual attendance ranges of a few hundred thousand to well over four million visitors. We are currently involved in projects in Europe, Russia, Asia Pacific, South America, and North America.
