ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has been the host to the World’s Senior Grand Slam Championship since 1922. In the early 1990s it became clear that a major change to its facilities was required to cope with the increasing scale and complexity of the Championships. In 1992, BDP produced a masterplan to a brief which evolved around the theme of “Tennis in an English Garden”. The study resulted in a proposal to construct a New No. 1 Show Court together with a new Broadcast Centre and a new Facilities Building, the latter to be built on the site of the old No. 1 Court.
