ABSTRACT

Injection of the homeopathic preparation Natrum muriaticum into the goldfish induced the spawning within 22 hours against 5 days in the control (Table 8.1). The experimental animals laid 2,856 eggs while the control laid 209 eggs. The ovulation induced by injections or implants of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone analogues in goldfish is relatively ineffective but with the combination of pimozide, a dopamine antagonist, ovulation was effective (Sokolowska et al., 1984). HCG (450 IU/kg each) combined with pituitary of Tachysurus sp caused spawning in river catfish Pangassius sutchi and Thai catfish Clarias macrocephalus after only two doses (Saidin et al. 1988). Conversely, homeopathic preparation induced spawning within 24 hr and even with a single dose. In the Indian carp Ci"hina mrigala (HAM), a single dose administeration of LH-RH analogue (10 Jlg/kg) and pimozide (10 mg/kg) caused ovulation (Kaul et al., 1986). The cost effectiveness of Natrum Muriaticum compares favourable with HCG, GnRHa and pituitary extracts.
