ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the processing technologies involved in preparing rubber-rubber and rubber-plastic blend vulcanizates and reviews recent developments in the analysis and perlormance of these materials. The capital intensive processes involving synthesis of new polymers with modified properties are becoming less interesting. This is because polymer blending has become a widely acceptable method of modification of polymer properties. A review of rubber blends was published by Ronald [1]. The emphasis was more on thermodynamics and properties of rubber-rubber blends. Coran [2] also summarized the properties of various rubber-plastic blends with special reference to technological compatibility.
