ABSTRACT

Mycorrhizal fungi have proved to be potential candidates for supplementing chemical fertilizers and for protection against environmental and cultural stress (Barea and Jeffries, 1995). The most important mycorrhizal response is the increased efficiency of mineral uptake, especially of poorly mobile ions, and many reports deal with the nutritional benefits that plants derive from mycorrhizal associations (Gianinazzi et a l , 1990; Barea, 1991; Gaur et al., 1998; Sharma and Adholeya, 2000, 2004; Rea and Tullio, 2005).
