A high potential for drug delivery has been attributed to particulate drug carriers, especially small particles such as microparticles and colloidal systems in the nanometer range. Looking at the types of colloidal/particulate drug carriers on the pharmaceutical market, one will find a number of systems being present in the majority of these products:
