ABSTRACT
Detoxification from opioid addiction is a long-standing medical and social problem. Treatments to date include methadone maintenance, maintenance on opioid antagonists, and clonidine for alleviation of withdrawal symptoms (1). The current project involves the formulation and eval uation of a narcotic partial agonist (buprenorphine) into a microsphere injectable delivery sys tem that could be useful for withdrawal therapy in opioid-addicted individuals as well as pro phylaxis (maintenance drug) against self-administration of opioids.
