I.INTRODUCTION TheoriginalworkofKohlerandMilstein(1),whichdescribedtheprinciplesofmonoclonal antibody(MAb)production,usedsheepredbloodcells(RBCs)astheantigenicstimulus.The firstmonoclonalantibodiesproducedweretoRBCdeterminants.ProductionofMAbstohuman bloodgroupAantigen(2)andthedemonstrationthatsuchantibodiesmightbeabletoreplace polyclonalseraasbloodgroupingreagents(3)weresignificantbreakthroughsintheapplication ofMAbtechnologytomedicine.
