It rep resen ts a typical se ttin g o f g ro u n d w a te r con tam ination in th e glacia ted soils o f n o rth easte rn U n ited S tates. T ab le II p resen ts th e geochem ical characteristics o f th e soil. T he soil w as m ostly con tam in ated w ith chrom ium and nickel and to a lesser ex ten t w ith zinc, cop p er, and cadm ium . X P S analysis indicated th a t chrom ium had tw o hexavalen t fo rm s at th e su rface o f th e soil and E P R analysis show ed th a t th e re w as triva len t chrom ium in th e soil m atrix [ 1 ].
