ABSTRACT

A b s t r a c t The a n a l y s i s of problems encountered with cementation i n deep w e l l s has i n d i c a t e d that:

Formation water which contains e l e c t r o l y t e s corrodes the hardened cement paste at high water-cement f a c t o r and thus causes leakage i n the cement mantle. Volume c o n t r a c t i o n of the hardened cement paste r e s u l t s i n the forming of microannuli and p e r m e a b i l i t y of the mantle. Excessive f i l t r a t e losses can impair the flow p r o p e r t i e s of the d r i l l i n g f l u i d i n the annulus and the hydr a t i o n process.
