ABSTRACT
Background. Lot sampling was developed as a sound scientific technique by Dodge and Romig of the Bell Telephone Laboratories in the late 1920s. Prof. Walter Bartky of the University of Chicago proposed the use of multiple sampling at about the same time. Dodge and Romig not only developed the theory; but prepared detailed tables to use in sampling lots to obtain specified quality with a minimum amount of inspection.1
