ABSTRACT
FDDI NICs-support a "promiscuous mode" operation, where all the traffic on a segment or ring can be processed. Ordinarily, a NIC processes only frames with its own MAC address as the destination, as well as broadcast frames, which are intended for everyone by definition. If the NIC is switched into promiscuous mode, it can also capture unicast and multicast traffic sent to other nodes.
