ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with mass and energy balances for Aspergillus niger growth kinetics. The relations obeyed by observed and true yield coefficients resulting from balance equa tions for carbon, reduction potential and energy during intensive cell growth and citric

acid overproduction are derived and discussed. Quantitative balances based on one macrochemical equation for checking the consistency of experimental data and evaluation of the efficiency of conversion of organic substrates by A. niger are also presented.
