There is also a clear difference between cell production and growth of a tumour. The latter is affected by apoptosis
(Box 6.2) and tumour necrosis because of ischaemia, and reflects the difference between cell gain and cell loss. Cell production is determined by the growth fraction and the cell cycle time.
