ABSTRACT
This book deals with only two-dimensional structures. The introduction to the finite element treatment of the continuum is given in Chapter 4 using the basics of mechanics and with virtual work to formulate the constant strain triangle (CST). This formulation uses a general coordinate displacement model to describe the u and v displacements within the element (similar to the plate element in Chapter 5).
