ABSTRACT

There is no problem in running piston engines on LPG and indeed they can be run at higher compression ratios with corresponding increase in efficiency due to the higher octane rating of propane. However, a complex distribution network would be required and although it is known that there are no insuperable problems it would seem more appropriate that the LPG should be converted to petrol at a refinery or used in power stations to avoid the comparatively heavy storage container on the vehicle and dangers in dispensing LPG in crowded areas.
