ABSTRACT

The synthesis of PSCN were previously reported by Qi et a1 (1998). In brief, the polystyrene/clay nanocomposite was prepared by emulsion poly~nerization of styrene in the presence of organo-montmorillonite (organo-MMT) obtained by intercalation with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide. The injection-molded samples (IPSCN) is prepared with CS-183 Mini-Max molder. XRD patterns were obtained with Rigaku DIMax-2400 X-ray diffracter, Cu Ka, 40 KV, 40 tnA. A Hitachi 800 transmission electron microscope (TEM) was used to observe the microstructure of the nanocomposite slice at an acceleration voltage of 100KV. The IPSCN samples were photographed using an Olympus BHSP polarization optical microscope (POM) with a Mettler FP-52 hot stage. Tliennal properties were characterized with Perkin-Elmer DSC7 differential scanning calorimeter at heating rate of 20°/min.
