ABSTRACT

Progressively censored samples have previously been considered by Herd (1956, 1960), Roberts (1962a, 1962b), Cohen (1963), and perhaps others. Herd referred to these samples as being multicensored, Roberts referred to them as being hypercensored. More recently, the designation of progressive censoring seems to be more or less accepted as the appropriate descriptive terminology. This section is based on the author's 1963 presentation.
