ABSTRACT

Between 1981-83, the WSRG planted eleven sites across the UK with single stem energy plantations (2), but due to unforseen complications only eight remain standing. These include 12 different species, all planted at a spacing of lm x lm . They have been measured annually for height, and diameter at ground level. In 1989/90, each species was destructively sampled to assess biomass production. From all these measurements, growth models have been constructed, which have enabled estimates of yield to be made over the predicted life of the plantations. Actual yields obtained from the trials are listed in Table 1.
