ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The killing procedure in african slaughterhouses makes it possible to collect high organic solid wastes, like dungs and rumen contents. Results of an anaerobic treatment plant setted-up in Thies (Senegal) are presented. A 40 m3 capacity TRANSPAILLE fermenter loaded with 0.22 ton TS/day can produce daily 35.5 m3 of biogas and 0.12 ton of compost. A biogas supplied cogeneration set produces electricity with an efficiency of 1.33 KWh/m3 biogas. Heat is also produced by this set to keep up the fermentation temperature. After analysis and trials, compost seems to be a good dressing of organic support for market garden crops nursery beds. The high levels of electricity price and compost demand in Senegal make this plant profitable.
