ABSTRACT

European conferences devoted to biomass and its role in energy, industry and the environment provide the occasion to take stock of emerging technologies: the technological and economic progress made in light of future markets, and the policy outlook for the energy sector, as well as for the environment, organic raw materials and agriculture. These analyses are important, because they guide decisions that could open up new markets for biomass. As the summaries of the technical sessions presented by G. Gosse, A. Bridgwater and I. Pasquon have emphasized the scientific and technical content of these technologies, I for my part will concentrate on the policy outlook, and I will recommend a few measures to be taken towards a more effective promotion of biomass for use in energy, industry and environmental applications.
