ABSTRACT

Food control agencies of countries where food irradiation is not allowed have an obvious interest in the availability of methods permitting detection of illegally irradiated or imported foodstuffs. No country in the world permits irradiation of all foods at ^ny radiation dose. Authorities in countries where specific foodstuffs or groups of foods may be irradiated with a specified dose, while not demanding detection methodology as a prerequisite to national approval, would welcome methods that allow detection of irradiated foods. Ideally, these methods would also permit an estimate of the applied dose.
