ABSTRACT

It was clear to see from those tests that the joints in the building were not performing satisfactorily in some cases. Figure 6.72 shows the results of measurements made whilst shaking the structure in a torsional mode. The sharp differences in the response of some adjacent elements is an indication that the joints between those elements were not performing satisfactorily. Indeed, other tests on the building suggested that it behaved rather like a giant tuning fork, with little connection between the two halves of the building above the eleventh floor.
