ABSTRACT

We conclude the book with a treatment of John von Neumann’s MiniMax theorem. Von Neumann originally conceived of this theorem in 1928 (see [VON]) in the context of game theory. He gave several proofs over the years, some of them relating in a profound way to Brouwer’s fixed-point theorem. The argument that we present here, due to Ju¨rgen Kindler [KIN], is close to von Neumann’s original proof. What we treat here is actually Maurice Sion’s version of the theorem, for which see [SIO]. We begin by stating the theorem. After the proof, we shall say a few words about applications.
