ABSTRACT
Obviously Pluto appears small. The apparent diameter is around 0.2 of a second of arc and, in most telescopes, Pluto appears as a starlike poioL As the apparent magnitude never exceeds 13.8, you need a fair-sized telescope to see it at all. ! lowever, it is known mat at the moment it has an extensive, though very thin, atmosphere, and tbe Hubble Space Telescope has been able to distinguish light areas and darker patches on irs surface. l have even suggested a preliminary nornenclarure for these features, making great play of Underworld deities such as Minos, Rhadamaomys, Aeacus and Persephone.
