ABSTRACT

Limestone, calcium oxide and hydrated lime have been used extensively in agriculture to neutralize acidic soils. When pulverized limestone became a competitor on the agricultural lime market about 1909, a competition arose between the producers of various types of lime products. Exaggerated claims led to considerable confusion concerning agronomic values of the different forms of lime. Numerous studies performed since 1912 proved that there is no principle difference between different forms of lime with respect to their agronomic value. If applied to the soil on the basis of equal lime oxides of similar fineness, the various forms of basic lime compounds have the same crop producing effect [9].
