ABSTRACT
The important organic pollutant in marine environments has been the crude oil that impacts marine waters and estuaries annually. Around the coast of the UK alone, between the years of 1986 and 1996, 6845 oil spills were reported. Of these, 1497 mishaps occurred in environmentally sensitive areas of sufficient magnitude to require clean up. The studies on oiled shorelines have been more numerous than open water studies.
