ABSTRACT

A background about evolutionary aspects of both the symbionts, mycorrhizal fungi ana plants, can provide a better perspective while discussing their phylogeny. The current trend is to assess evolutionary and phylogenic aspects of fungus and/or plant host using the molecular method, then, compare it with previous inferences made using morphological and functional traits. In tune with this strategy, this chapter firstly highlights the classical aspects followed by detailed discussions on molecular approaches employed to study the evolution and phylogeny of mycorrhizas.
