ABSTRACT

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is a digital transport technol ogy that can simultaneously transmit voice, data, images and video. Also known as Cell Relay or Broadband ISDN, ATM operates at speeds from 155 Mbps (million bits per second) to 622 Mbps. It is classified as an asynchronous transport technology because the cells carrying data are not required to be periodic, or timed.
