ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, we discussed the ITU-T standards that are oriented toward face-to-face video communication. In this chapter, we will discuss another aspect o f conferencing-audiographics conferencing. Originally, the term audiographics referred to facsimile, slow scan television, and 35mm slides. Today, it refers to applications that blend voice communications (point-to-point or multiparty) with PC-oriented graphics, data, and document sharing. The voice portion of the exchange takes place over ordinary telephone lines; the data portion occurs over LANs, WANs, ISDN, the Internet or POTS. The result is a visually enhanced teleconference in which high-resolution images can be created, exchanged, shared and discussed.
