ABSTRACT

The same is half-true for video communication. The means have become ubiquitous. Public rooms abound for providing high-end video communication. One can reserve a nearby Kinko's Copy Center videoconferencing room by dialing a toll-free number or by pointing a web browser. Once there, one will find a room-based videoconferencing system and accommodations tha t rival those in corporate conference rooms. At the desktop, video communication is even easier. Perhaps no computer ships today without video communication software, a modem or Ethernet jack, a microphone and speakers. Few, if any, computers stand completely disconnected from the Internet. Furthermore, while wireless networks are gearing up,

mobile telephone users foreshadow end-to-end interactive video communications by augmenting their conversations with still pictures.
