chapter  12
Compressors, Intensifiers, Blowers, Fans, Inducers, and Vacuum Pumps
Pages 30

For typical pneumatic power and control applications-including shop air systems-the following definitions will suffice: A compressor produces substantial working pressure (typically 100 psig) at low to moderate flows to run powered equipment and to pressurize control systems; an intensifier amplifies pressure; a blower produces light working pressures (2 to 15 psig, for example) for auxiliary low-energy functions such as paper handling, low-force clamping, combustion, and ventilation; fans normally provide cooling or ventilation at Jess than 1 psig; and an inducer entrains air.
