ABSTRACT

This presentation informs about the design and construction of filters in existing Swedish dams and possibilities to counteract the fact that the filters often do not meet modern criteria. The discussion is based on a case history of Suorva Dam, which includes leakage, sinkhole formation, investigations and finally remedialmeasures performed to the dam. This incident triggered investigations of the Suorva dam as well as other damswhere similar incidents of leakagehadbeen observed.
