ABSTRACT

Diseases of the heart and circulation disorders account for a significant proportion of total mor bidity and adult deaths throughout the world and especially in the industrially advanced countries. Rheumatic heart disease appears to be common in the developing countries but in most affluent societies, new cases of this disease are relatively low. Coronary heart disease (CHD), however has reached epidemic proportions in the developed nations. Mann (1) described these diseases of heart and circulation and the role of food and nutrition in their etiology and management.
